Stage 5

After Approval

Step-by-step instructions after receiving a positive decision: certificate, passport, taftotita, children, and army

Hooray! After several months of waiting, the approval letter arrives. Next is the final bureaucratic quest.

Step 1. The Letter

The letter arrives in a plain white envelope on standard A4 paper — there is nothing remarkable on the envelope.

Example Letter

Take the letter and go to the District Administration — see the address in Submission. Present the letter and pay €500. In about 2 weeks, 2 naturalization certificates will be ready — they usually call to let you know when to collect them.

Step 2. Certificates

Take both certificates and go to the Court. Buy revenue stamps for €9 and have them certified — stick the stamps on only one certificate. Keep the second one for yourself and protect it.

During the same visit, it is recommended to certify an affidavit regarding the mother’s name change (if the mother changed her name from maiden to married) — here is an example affidavit of what it might look like.

Step 3. Back to the Administration

Submit the certified certificate (with stamps) back to the same District Administration. Wait until you are entered into the system and assigned a registration number.

Step 4. Getting the Registration Number

In about 2 weeks, verify whether the registration number has been assigned, then apply for the passport and taftotita.

Step 5. Passport and Taftotita

Express Standard
Passport €120, ready the same day €50, 2–3 weeks
ID (taftotita) €30, ~3 weeks €30, ~3 weeks

Documents needed: application form (for passport, for taftotita), current passport, residence permit, naturalization certificate, marriage certificate translation (if applicable), affidavit with mother’s name (example template).

After obtaining your taftotita, you need to update your details in several places — read more in After obtaining taftotita (Cypriot ID).
