Stage 5 — After Approval

Children

How and when minor children receive citizenship after parent's approval

Children receive citizenship after the main applicant is approved — through registration as children of a Cypriot citizen. You cannot apply simultaneously. The procedure consists of two stages: first, a visa at the migration department, then applying for citizenship itself.

Timeline: ~8 months after the parent’s approval.

Age is determined by the date the parent submits the application, not the approval date. If a child was 17 when the parent submitted and turned 18 by the time the approval arrived, they still go through the “child” path: Greek language and culture exams do not need to be taken. However, in this case, instead of M126, form M127 must be completed for them as for an adult, and the submission fee will be €5,000.

Children who are already 18 on the date of the parent’s submission must apply independently under the general procedure.

Stage 1. Visa at the Migration Department — €50

The child is first issued a visa as a family member of a Cypriot (parent) — the application is submitted to the local Civil Registry and Migration Department.

Appointment booking is done by email, for example for Limassol at limetiseis@police.gov.cy:

Subject: Appointment Request - MCYE3

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to arrange an appointment for my child.

NUMBER OF PERSONS APPLYING: 1 LOCAL TELEPHONE NUMBER: [your number]

CHILD 1:

NAME AND SURNAME: … DATE OF BIRTH: … NATIONALITY: … PASSPORT NUMBER: … DATE OF LAST ARRIVAL: … ARC: … EXPIRATION DATE: …

In response, they will assign an appointment date.

For the appointment you need to:

  • fill in form MCYE3
  • bring the child with you — they will take their photo directly during the appointment
  • pay the fee of €50

At this appointment, ask for the bank guarantee refund form — it will need to be signed by the cashier later, when the physical residence permit card is ready.

Residence permit status can be checked by sending an SMS to 1199 (€0.034 per SMS) with the text: STATUS ApplicationNumber — for example, STATUS 1234/2016. Read more details on gov.cy.

Stage 2. Citizenship — Form M126, €80

Next, form M126 is completed, signed by Cypriot sponsors, certified in court, and submitted to the local District Administration — booking and submission procedures are the same as described in Submission.

The fee at submission is €80.

Total cost (if the child is still under 18 at the time of their document submission):

  • migration department visa — €50
  • citizenship application (form M126) — €80
  • taftotita (ID card) — €30
